A Deflector Shield... aye laddie, that's the ticket.
Since they are going to be having charged particles interacting with a
magnetic field, is there some way they can get some electricity out of
this system to help offset that used to generate it?

Too bad it's all a game at public expense, and if need be at their own
demise.

Our Zoinist/Nazi DARPA was always good at this kind of game, even if
it sustained a mutually perpetrated cold-war, plus started a few hot
wars and inflated the cost of most everything in the process.

A few terawatts applied here and there should do the electromagnetic
trick of creating an artificial shield.
