Mr. Sha is flooding ASTROADS with telescopes he doesn't own but that are
just copied from ASTROMART USA
(Vixen 102EDSS , AP 130 f/8 EDT OTA , William Optics 105mm etc.).
I don't think this is very honest. Any comment?

Simply ignore his posts I find the guy a complete pain, and rip off artist.
He is very over priced, and makes out he is doing us all a favour - ********
is he, maybe himself one. You may want to mention it to Chris Heapy though.

He isn't exactly "flooding" AA with these ads since he now posts a link
to his "stocklist".
I do agree with you though that it is less than totally ethical to claim
that he has these items for sale. Furthermore I have been told by a
potential customer of his that the "inclusive price" does not really
include fully paid VAT and import duty but rather a ruse (at some risk
tot the seller if discovered) to avoid payment of same.
So why not do what I do and ignore his listings? Nobody forces me to
read Sha's ads nor to buy from them.

Have a word with Chris about your concerns, he is very understanding. I am
intrigued how he can get the goods past customs without paying duty.

Even though the ads are from overseas, since the goods are being offerred
for sale here then doesn't our Sales of Goods Act apply, so if he is selling
on second-hand items that are not in stock then I believe he has to make
people aware of that fact. Even though its a private sale, parts of the Act
still apply.

As the others said, best approach is to ignore him.

Yes, well, ahem, there is that somewhat minor point, isn't there ))

And of course my understanding of 'mint' meaning still in box, never opened,
may turn out to be in fact 'all the bits that were in the box are there, I
think'.

My main problem with Sha is that he over prices stuff.

Some of his Tak scopes are almost new UK price (ie Mewlon £5000 UK -
£4300 Sha) , while the CG11 he's got - minus counter weights - comes
in at £1550. You can buy a brand new G11 from Venturescope for under
£2000. Doesn't look a vast saving to me,

Agreed..

I don't look at any private-sale second-user gear priced at more than 50% of
new list price. For dealer-stocked items I'd raise this to 60% of new list
price. Anything over those limits I ignore, unless of course it is an item
that has additional scarcity value.

Pricing second hand stuff can be difficult - depends, as you say, on its
rarity value.

Some of the astro ads in Astronomy Now vary ludicrously in price. Some folk
obviously think they will get almost 100 per cent return value on a Meade,
while in recent years, I've seen some second hand scopes being offered at
prices greater than a brand new ones due to subsequent prices cuts!

Generally I tend to work around a two thirds basis, hence my C9.25 OTA
would, if ever I decided to sell, be offered at about £750 - £800. Chinese
stuff less.
