HTV : 30 days maximum stay at station
In the jaxa web site, I read a blurb that HTV has a maximum stay of only
30 days at the station and 100 days in orbit. (not sure if the 30 days in included in the 100 or in addition to). Anyone know if this is a systems isssue, similar to the 6 month limit for a Soyuz once the fuel has begin to be used. Or is it just some paperwork limitation because it is felt HTV has insufficient shielding in its pressurised section (which appears much smaller than I though). ? Or is it just 30 days now because its presence nadir of node2 prevents docking or proper operations of a shuttle, so they want HTV to vacate the premises before next Shuttle flight ? In other words, once the USA is devoid of any spaceship capable of using PMA2, would HTV be able to stay as long as it wants attached to node 2 ? |

30 days maximum stay at station

I thought I heard sixty days in the current design, but I suspect the reason at the moment is the port usage problem, certainly, otherwise the days in orbit would be less would they not? This is the first one and if we say one a year then I do not see its going to be a good thing if its stuck at one month docked. What about ATV which docks to the Russian segment, has this got a loiter restriction? Brian Looks like the ESA Jules Verne ATV-1 was docked almost 6 months at ISS. I was thinking it was a relatively long time. Looks like it docked on 4/3/08 and undocked 9/5/08 |
