What DST does
The daily cycle is anchored to noon where sunrise and sunset are more or less symmetrical either side of this fixed astronomical event regardless of season.
https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/ireland/dublin The human body and its dominant daily rhythm responds to this cycle and it is genuinely good to see people commended for taking notice of something I always appreciated via daily rotation - https://universe-review.ca/I10-67-circadianclock.jpg What DST does is reset clock noon artificially on top of the natural difference which keeps rotations (sunrise/sunset) pinned to noon so not only will a sundial register the normal Equation of Time difference but also the DST one hour difference. People believe it is one hour less sleep that jars them when the DST adjustment is applied but this is not true, when DST is removed in October it returns the body and clocks back to their natural cycles.. Readers of this newsgroup are exclusively dictated to by timekeeping rather than the necessary discrimination which distinguishes timekeeping from the natural cycles with the latter being of more importance. The awful means by which rotation is asserted using circumpolar motion of the stars is accompanied by filling in the details with the Sun like some awful cartoon of a 'solar vs sidereal' fiction. |

This is the first time DST has been explained in any meaningful way in determining the difference between the timekeeping cycle and the natural cycle as they are anchored to natural noon and 24 hour noon.

More of your rubbish. Daylight savings time is just a confidence trick enabling governments to tell everyone to get up an hour earlier without riots. Retired people like me cam ignore it. |

There is no need to contend with the dull or the witless insofar as the evolution of timekeeping from antiquity is such an enjoyable narrative with its own twists and turns.
The great British engineering tradition and the emergence of rapid transport of the railways along with the telegraph required a shift from local time anchored in local noon to a system which put the island into a single time band. This band was extended to Ireland a century ago where the two islands fell within the single 15 degree longitude band representing 1 hour time difference from other bands - http://img2.thejournal.ie/article/39...6856&width=390 Local time is based on the idea that noon occurs 4 minutes later with each degree West of Greenwich so Dublin at 6 degrees West was around 25 minutes later than London. It is all anchored to noon where sunrise and sunset are physically equidistant to the noon event when a location is midway between the circle of illumination. DST and what it does comes within the framework of these insights whereas the witless a number of centuries ago tried to anchor rotation and the daily cycle to stellar circumpolar motion and created havoc on that account for following generations. |

Except it might interfere with observing time versus appointments with your doctor the next morning. One amateur astronomer referred to it as Darkness Squandering Time. |

I don't feel sorry for those who mistake timekeeping for time nor even those who face obstacles in getting past the voodoo merchants and their celestial sphere monstrosity, as far as I concerned the actual evolution of timekeeping with astronomy opens up two different areas of research.
How many fools fell for Newton's expression of the Equation of Time which links timekeeping of the 24 hour day to the fixed astronomical event of natural noon - "Absolute time, in astronomy, is distinguished from relative, by the equation of time. For the natural days are truly unequal, though they are commonly considered as equal and used for a measure of time; astronomers correct this inequality for their more accurate deducing of the celestial motions...The necessity of which equation, for determining the times of a phænomenon, is evinced as well from the experiments of the pendulum clock, as by eclipses of the satellites of Jupiter." Principia No doubt the hopeless or the witless imagine this is an attack on Sir Isaac but it never was, the original proposal of Huygen's in respect to the Equation of Time is flawed as it equates the Sun around the Earth with the Earth around the Sun - "Here take notice, that the Sun or the Earth passeth the 12. Signes, or makes an entire revolution in the Ecliptick in 365 days, 5 hours 49 min. or there about, and that those days, reckon'd from noon to noon, are of different lenghts; as is known to all that are vers'd in Astronomy. " Huygens The day is anchored to noon so the sum of 1461 days to 4 years equates to 1461 rotations to 4 orbital circuits as a close proximity rather than an exact proportion. Let you all waste the rest of your lives chasing falsehoods, errors and mistakes from other centuries, people who value what is left of their lives should live to make it more relevant for themselves. |
