Default Newbie question on eyepieces

Hi all,

With eyepieces for telescopes... I gather that they are all standardised
as "one size fits all"? Or do certain brands of eyepieces only fit with
certain scopes? What are some good brand eyepieces?

Kind regards,

Default Newbie question on eyepieces

Most good telescopes use 1.25" diameter eyepieces, and many also allow 2" ones.

Most cheap department store scopes (and some great Takahashis) use .965"
eyepieces.
For scopes with a 2" focuser, there are adapters available for 1.25" ones, and
even adapters which let you use a .965" eyepiece in a 1.25" focuser.
For scopes which have .965" focusers and which use a "star diagonal", you can
obtain a diagonal which plugs into the .965" focuser and will take 1.25"
eyepieces.
TeleVue eyepieces are very good and very expensive. Pentax and Takahashi are
very good and very expensive. University Optics Abbe Orthos are very good and
not very expensive. Except for Takahashi, most .965" eyepieces are not very
good. These would be the huygenian and ramsdens, though they are OK with
telescopes which have a focal ratio of F/15 or above.
Clear, Dark, Steady Skies!
(And considerate neighbors!!!)
