HELP! - simple question!
what DEATHS of celestial bodies have humans witnessed without a telescope? (not counting meteors) and the years occured if possible. thanx |

SN 1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud was the last one to achieve naked-eye brightness; before that, Kepler's Star of 1604, Tycho's Star of 1572, and the SN in 1054 which produced the Crab Nebula (and which may have inspired the star-and-crescent motifs of the Near East). S Andromedae (a supernova in M31 in 1885) did reach magnitude 6, making it just barely visible to the unaided eye. 2) Some comets split apart or completely disappear after they pass too close to the Sun.
