Any expierences with Discovery DHQ telescopes ?
I've got a 6" f/8 mirror from them with enhanced "premium" coatings in
my Dob, and it peforms very well for it's size. I can't speak for the mechanicals though. "Dimitri I. Rakitine" wrote in message ... I was pretty much set on getting Orion XT8, but, out of principle, I avoid buying stuff made in China as much as I can, so I searched for alternatives and came up with discovery-telescopes company. One I'm interested in is 8" PDHQ: http://www.discovery-telescopes.com/PDHQ.html Also, which viewfinder do you guys recommend - 8x50 or Telrad ? TIA |

What about a zero-power red dot finder?
"Joe S." wrote in message ... Use both viewfinders. Get the 8x50 right angle. And get a Telrad -- they complement each other. -- ----- Joe S. "Dimitri I. Rakitine" wrote in message ... What about a zero-power red dot finder? Not bad but not as good as the Telrad IMHO. The rings of the Telrad make gaging position easier, the illumination control is better and there is less parallax shift. jon |

The Telrad is terrific in a dark sky, but if you observe from light polluted areas you may have better luck with a finder, since the Telrad requires seeing stars naked eye. I have both on my scope, and the Telrad gets by far the most use. |
