Phobos and Deimos
I saw these for the first time last night with my 18 inch and a 3.8mm
Orion Ultascopic. I had to put Mars just outside of the fov. Deimos was easy but Phobos, which was considerably closer to Mars, was fairly difficult. Have many out there seen these babies. I also saw two Uranian moons as well last night from my light polluted back yard. |

Phobos well I dont use an occulting bar, I *think* I have seen it, but there are some other 11/12 mag stars in the area where it was at elongation. Phobos and Deimos
Another tough one is Saturn's Mimas. I have seen it but it was difficult.

Do Mars' moons exhibit diffraction rings? They're not bright enough to produce diffraction rings that can be seen visually in any telescope. Mike Simmons |
