Default identify this spacesuit ?

Hi,

In order to complete an article about spacesuits,
could someone tell me what kind of suits are next
http://www.astrosurf.org/lombry/Scie...bert-white.jpg
for X-15 pilots, looks like a flightsuit, semi pressurised ?

http://www.astrosurf.org/lombry/Scie...-gilliland.jpg
for SR-71, looks like a spacesuit made of 2 layers, full pressurised ?

At last, what model of spacesuit used Alan Shepard in 1961 onboard Freedom 7
(look like a SR-71 suit, probably a bit modified)

Does someone know their name or model ref. ?

Thanks in advance

Thierry

Anyway, a Google search under "Mercury pressure suit" and "X-15 pressure
suit" found those two; the SR-71 suit is harder to find, although I
found lots of photos of them on this page by entering "YF-12 pressure
suit": http://area51specialprojects.com/yf-12.html
Unfortunately, having light yellow text on a white webpage is a very
dumb idea. :-P

....Didn't someone post a link to a Clark suit website a while upon a

Hell of a lot of different pressure suits, and variations there of, over
the years:
http://www.astronautix.com/craftfam/spasuits.htm
But you've got to absolutely love that Luftwaffe one from WW II that had
the riveted helmet made from several pieces of Plexiglas...
That baby was was right out "The Rocketeer" itself.
BTW...who could look absolutely hotter than Angelina Jolie in that
bubble-domed number from "Sky Captain"?:
http://www.angelinajolie.ppg.br/Angelinajolie_sky2.jpg
That's perfect! The eyepatch makes the whole character!
They even got the RAF "mirror" camouflage and marking style right...it's
a pity that the movie is going to end up in that "Tron" bin as far as
cinematic history goes.
This is "Golden Age Air Adventure Stories" incarnate:

Those have got to be the most kissable lips since Sophia Loren....

I couldn't tell you for sure, but the SR71 pilot's gear looks
suspiciously like the David Clark G4C, used in Gemini, and originally
planned for use on the early Apollo Block I missions, with mods.

I don't know _what_ that is, that the X15 pilot is wearing. It almost
looks like the bulky training suits that you see Gemini crewmen wearing
in all the fotos of them doing egress training and such.

Actually, screw my previous SWAGs on that; have a look at
http://www.astronautix.com/craftfam/spasuits.htm

....and, when you're done, check out the _rest_ of the site, which is
positively sweet, crammed to the gills with more cool spaceflight info
and imagery than you'd ever thought you'd want to know, ever.

You're thinking of the "Mark I", a USNavy high-altitude flight suit:
http://www.astronautix.com/craft/marodiii.htm
....modified for use in Project Mercury as:
http://www.astronautix.com/craft/meresuit.htm

....also immortalized on the cover of Devo's "New Traditionalists".

Btw, it's also interesting to note that the designers were also once
thinking of a _gold_ lamè outer layer for this suit, possibly inspired
by a recent (at the time) Elvis Presley album cover design, and possibly
would've been rejected by the astronauts en masse owing to its looking
"gay as hell".

The suit this SR71 pilots's got on _here_, though, looks a bit more like
a version of the David Clark G4C, also originally designed for extreme
high-altitude aircraft, but adapted for use in space:
http://www.astronautix.com/craft/g4c.htm
....although the Ed White EVA foto here doesn't really show enough;
here's a bit better one:
http://images.jsc.nasa.gov/lores/S65-41955.jpg
....a David Clark G4C with a helmet specifically designed to maintain the
proper pressure in the gap between Pete's teeth.

****, man; here I am passing MWEA links on to this guy, and totally
forgot Mark actually did have an SR71 suit mod on his Space Suits page:
http://www.astronautix.com/craft/ees.htm
....which is actually an SR71 suit mod for use as a Shuttle Launch/Entry
suit -- only a partial-pressure suit, iirc what they call a "get me down
suit".

And now, if I can only remember where I found that really clean, close
shot of John Young suiting up for STS01, where it looks like he's also
wearing one of those darkish-tan SR71 suits...

If memory serves, the operational SR-71 crews originally used a slight
variant of the Gemini suits.

David Clark also made the X-15 suits, which went through one major design
revision and several smaller ones. The current shuttle ascent/descent
suits (which replaced the partial-pressure suits used for a while after
Challenger) are distant derivatives of the X-15 suits, as were the final
SR-71 suits.
