Update to RTGUI, Windows Real-Time Astronomy Program:
I have just released an update to my free Windows astronomy program RTGUI, now version 1.1. The principal change is that the text is now a dark black when you are in "Night Vision" mode, for better clarity and better preservation of your night vision. Also the cardinal directions (compass) have been added to azimuth readings, as well as a few small fixes. RTGUI is a small, fast real-time 32-bit program for observers that gives continuously-updated, highly accurate information about celestial objects. It is not a sky-charting program. The download size is under 350k. Its principal features a - Rapidly locate deep-sky objects or bright stars from catalogs. - Easy-to-use GUI interface, complete documentation & "help" menu. - Create a custom "tour" based on your own criteria. - Locate the Sun, Moon, and Planets with excellent accuracy. - Controls most Celestron and Meade "Goto" telescopes to slew directly to the selected object. - Automatically record object, time, & location information when the Observing Log is opened - Display altitude and azimuth of Astronomical Objects In Real-Time. - Set up "night vision" mode in Windows to preserve your eyes' dark adaptation. The program is at www.debunker.com/astro/rtguipage.html . The program is free for noncommercial users, although donations are accepted. If users of the program have any comments on it, I would appreciate hearing them. -- Robert Sheaffer - User name "Roberto" at debunker-dot-com Skeptical to the Max!
