EINSTEIN'S TRAVEL INTO THE FUTURE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZ0gQevrPTo
Stephen Hawking: "By traveling at near light speeds, we can travel into the future." Not true. Not even a consequence of Einstein's relativity. Consider a single moving clock consecutively meeting multiple stationary clocks: http://www.pitt.edu/~jdnorton/teachi...ty/clocks..gif For the moving clock Einstein's relativity validly predicts that, as it consecutively meets multiple stationary clocks and is checked against them, the difference between its reading and the reading of the stationary clock just being met DECREASES with the number of meetings. All observers agree on that decrease but only those in the stationary system are entitled to conclude that the moving clock runs more slowly than the multiple stationary clocks and in this sense travels into their future. Einstein's relativity has a second valid prediction: If the single clock is STATIONARY and the multiple clocks MOVING so that the single clock can consecutively meet and be checked against them, the difference between the reading of the single (stationary this time) clock and the reading of the moving clock just being met DECREASES with the number of meetings. Again, all observers agree on that decrease but this time those in the MOVING system are entitled to conclude that the single stationary clock runs more slowly than the multiple moving clocks and in this sense travels into their future. Clearly the statement: "By traveling at near light speeds, we can travel into the future" CANNOT be derived from the postulates of special relativity. What validly follows from the postulates is that any clock/observer travels into the future of another that moves relative to it/him, as judged from the other clock/observer's system. Pentcho Valev |
