Boeing Crew Capsule Concept
Losing no time (probably had this proposal on the back
burner for a long time), Boeing reveals their concept for a commercial crew capsule. Suprise (not!), it's another Apollo clone. http://tinyurl.com/ygpyp7e --Damon |

That and sticking with an Apollo shaped reentry vehicle is definitely the conservative (i.e. cheaper) approach. Not sure why anyone would expect something that doesn't roughly resemble an Apollo capsule. We're talking about something that goes on top of what's almost certainly a long cylindrical object and becomes "the pointy end," while at the same time has to be of a shape that's going to permit safe re-entry. Pretty much says you're going to be looking at some sort of squat cone, which may have some additional cylindrical extension "behind" or "below" it. And bingo!, there ya go... Bob M. |

Is there any reason why they cannot make the thing slightly oval? The crew
could then be less squashed surely?
