Simulating Solar Sailing
I have added the ability to simulate solar sails to my simulator.
A solar sail is an interesting way to reboost a hanging tether at GEO. If anyone can point me to the results of some other solar sail simulations for spiraling out of Earth orbit I would appreciate it. See samples 73 and 74 in the Java applet at: http://spacetethers.com/spacetethers.html Some known limitations: This simulator is only for Earth/Moon system really, so you can't go as far as you might like with your solar sail. I don't currently cut power when in shadow of the Earth. This should change about as fast as this post gets out. The solar sail can not be attached to a tether just yet. If anyone wants to check over the source it is at: http://spacetethers.com/source/solarsail.java - Vince |
