UK Beagle space probe ruined because it used unwiedly solar panels
Sigh. A problem easily avoided by using a small, portable nuclear power supply.

US Hershey vomit flavoured chocolate is similarly disgusting. Cadbury owned by a US conglomerate Kraft has downgraded from acceptable to the bare minimum crap that can legally still be called chocolate. We're not talking about candy; try to stay on topic. |

Is that your view ? What would be the weight and cost of such a nuclear power supply? And if one had been attached, how much would have had to be sacrificed from the scientific mission? Remember that the Mars Express Orbiter is still going strong after a decade using solar panels - should that have sacrificed a bunch of instruments to be replaced by a couple to RTGs? |

Why do the British drink warm beer? They don't. They just don't drink ice cold beer. Because ice cold beer is disgusting. Unless you like disgusting beer to begin with, in which case being ice cold helps mask the flavor. No self-respecting restaurant or microbrewery in the U.S. serves ice cold beer, either. |

No self-respecting restaurant or microbrewery in the U.S. serves ice cold beer, either. You could always try Miller Lite, it leaves no aftertaste. (It leaves no before taste or during taste either.) An American's view of his Miller Lite: Less of a beer and more of a way of life/business mandate for me. My occupation demands that I drink this often and in mass. When I’m out with work people (even at a good beer bar) I frequently have to stick to ML or perhaps High Life in order to keep up. Work sometimes dictates that I drink more than 10 beers in a night and I can down 10 MLs and still be sober. Try that with any craft and you’re toast. I don’t usually mind it too much, ML in the bottle makes for a decent session. If it’s ice cold and in a can it’s reminiscent of a camping or fishing trip for me. Either way it’s ok. On tap is a different story. ML on tap is just **** and indigestion in a glass. Forget about it even when it’s free. ML looks like corn colored ****. It tastes like water and pilsner malt when ice cold and corn syrup when cold to warm. It smells the same as it tastes. It doesn’t give much of a buzz. It IS LESS FILLING! It’s way better than bud light, that’s for damned sure. Since we are supposed to review “within the style” here on BA, I’ve gotta give this beer props. It’s about the best you can do in this pathetic style. (ref: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/pro...=jushoppy2beer) Why do Americans fill a glass with ice before adding wine or Coca Cola? "Big Mac and fries to go, please, and a DIET coke." "Large or medium fries? "Large with extra ketchup, please." Americans are fat, tasteless and polite. Government health warning: Riding a bicycle in America is dangerous to your health. Only use an approved stationary exercise machine to increase your heart rate and take your cholesterol reducing statins regularly, the drug companies need the profits. Yeah, right. Scottish smoked salmon and Cornish clotted cream for me, washed down with Glenlivet and Newcastle Brown. I'll also take an American Sam Adams, they are not ALL bad. -- Pastor Ravi Holy of Ghetti Spa, Los Agña, Santa Gria ria Je suis charlie! |

I used to like that until, at university I had four pints of it at lunchtime in the student union bar followed by an organic chemistry practical with everyone preparing a different noxious substance and very few using the fume cupboards. After that I had to cycle home about six miles on cobbled streets. I felt so ill afterwards that I didn't drink Newcastle Brown again for over twenty years! Note to Americans - an Imperial pint is 20 fluid ounces not 16. |

That it soft landed without being smashed to smithereens was a serious achievement. It is a shame that Prof Pillinger didn't live to see that it had arrived on Mars. Oh! Another probe that accomplished something, like the comet-lander...only to be DONE IN by ridiculous solar power. The problem with the Beagle was its configuration. It is INSANE to have expected such a complex solar panel configuration to have unfolded properly. |

Shame the panels didn't deploy correctly but it came very close. Why do the British drink warm beer? Because unlike US beer it isn't necessary to serve it frozen to mask the taste. US Hershey vomit flavoured chocolate is similarly disgusting. No cacao solids don't help, it's like brown wax. American brands sold in Canada at least are required to have more than their U.S. counterparts. |
