Please forgive our cultural assumptions and ignorance.
English is the primary language of this newsgroup, and
there is an inherent association between english/western
names, and gender.

Sitav Nabi does not seem like an English or Western name,
and hence most of us are at a loss for the proper gender
association, if there even is one. And as other writers
have pointed out, most young people posting to this newsgroup
do seem to be guys. They played the odds and lost.

You are to be congratulated on your interest in astronomy,
either as a hobby, or as a future career. The field could
use more women and girls, potentially enriching all of our
lives, and providing greater options for all.

Best regards,
Larry G.

Sam,

What's your definition of an old geezer?
Hey, I don't look 50 but I have a bit a gray hair

Sitav,

Now that we know that you live in New Jersey, perhaps we can be a bit
more helpful.
Actually, there are quite a few Astronomy Clubs in New Jersey and in
fact they have an umbrella org called: United Astronomy Clubs of NJ or
UACNJ except they don't seem to have an operating link now?

At any rate, here are clubs in NJ at least these are the listed ones on
the Astronomy Mag website:

http://www.astronomy.com/asy/communi...asp?groupid=99

Many of the astronomy clubs in the United States belong to an umbrell
org called
The Astronomical League:

http://www.astroleague.org/

The one good thing about this org is that they give out awards for
those who see all the craters etc. on the Moon. These are called
Astronomical Club Awards and there are many clubs such as the Messier.
There is also a Binocular Club too as well as many other clubs.

Oh and I can't stop typing here until I tell you about Cherry Springs
State Park located in Potter County, PA. This park is designated by
the PA Park System as a "Dark Sky Preserve". actually is the very first
Dark Sky Preserve in the entire nation.

http://www.upstateastro.org/stars/cssp.html

Actually, the view is not too terribly brighter than the 9,000 ft level
of Mauna Kea, Hawaii.
It's so dark that the clouds look like splotches against a starry sky
because there is no light pollution at all.

You can see the Milky Way from one horizon to the other and many
Messier Objects that should be visible (fairly bright) yet invisible
from much of suburbia in fact are naked eye objects here.

Lastly, here is my club..Bucks-Mont. Astronomical Assoc., Inc.

http://bmaa.freeyellow.com/index.html

and I am one of a few former presidents.

Cordially,

P. Edward Murray

no problem. chat rooms are just a way for my friends in school to talk
to me. We dont talk or try to meet anyone we dont know.we know how
dangerous it is.

Well, it's a matter of perspective. Say 30 or older? :-0
