The Moon and the Pleiades
Us west coast folks missed the occulation, which was over
before the Moon rose here. This didn't stop me from padding out to the back yard this morning at 0400 PDT (1100 UTC) with my binoculars and having a look at the waning crescent Moon right next to the Pleiades, as the sky brightened in the northeast. This was another of those "welcome back!" moments, having not seen the Pleiades (or Hyades) since they sank in to the dusk in April... Glad you enjoyed the view Laura which I confess I missed. The last quarter moon has been rising in NE recently and shining on the bedroom wall opposite the window in the early hours. I can spy Venus at dawn from the pillow - great stuff! Nytecam 51N 0.1W www.astroman.fsnet.co.uk |
