Default separation for flight test

hi!

when the shuttle prototype 'enterprise' was separated in flight from the
carrier to perform the flight tests, how did they prevent the shuttle
from crashing into the airplane?

does anyone know what kind of manoeuvre was performed?

thanks

If memory serves, they put the 747 into a moderate dive and
set the orbiter control surfaces for a climb. The orbiter then
kind of levitated away from the 747 when it was released.

Seperation was completed while the 747 was in a dive.
Enterprise turned right. The 747 turned left. :-)

Hi,

there is a discussion on that going on in the german de.sci.raumfahrt.
Based on NASA's reports we concluded that the SCA was in a dive for
seperation and tured left after safety space was reached while the
Enterprise turned right to perform it's tests.

Bye ... Lars
