I does look a bit short, timewise, though it depends on what they all ready
have built, and more important how much money they are prepared to throw at
the missions.

Interesting indeed. Just think, if the USSR had supplied The West with
high quality, massed produced goods instead of the Lada, Skoda, Yugo
and Zenith. They would still be a world power and would now be
out-spending the US on space research. They must be kicking themselves
now at not releasing the Trabant to eager Western customers.

One wonders whether the USA will try to compete with the Chinese as
they did with the USSR on manned space research. Will US national
pride re-ignite the Moon and Mars landings programmes? Or will
Bollywood now be brought in to (better) fake another US Moon landings
sharade full of scientific loopholes in a secret Indian Area 57
hangar?

Or will America (and Hollywood) have to do it for real this time to
avoid having Moon Dust kicked in its face? Will Bruce Willis triumph
in the end? Watch this space? ;-)

I reckon they are aiming to have a spectacular space mission of some
sort to co-incide with (or lead up to) the Beijing Olympics in August
2008 and the total solar eclipse that crosses China on the 1 August
that year.
