Hudson Valley Home Observatory: When Art Collides with Science

John, et al: There was an article about this observatory in the NY Times a year or two ago. One of the interesting things pointed out in the article is how much better the owners found the seeing at the higher level they put the scope versus on the ground. The observatory was designed with the scope some 12 to 15 feet off the ground to provide a clearer horizon. However, the bigger benefit is the improvement in seeing gained from getting that high off the ground. Tim Ferris mentioned the same effect in "Seeing in the Dark". George N |
