NASA ANNOUNCES SPACE SHUTTLE PROGRAM UPDATE

NASA managers will brief media about the Space Shuttle Program and the
next mission (STS-121), at 2 p.m. EST, Tuesday at the press site at
Kennedy Space Center, Fla. It will air live on the Web and NASA TV.
Questions will be taken from media at participating NASA locations.
New conference participants:

-- Wayne Hale, space shuttle program manager
-- Mike Leinbach, NASA launch director
--Tim Wilson, STS-114 External Tank Tiger Team lead, NASA Engineering
& Safety Center

The 11th edition of "NASA's Implementation Plan for Space Shuttle
Return to Flight and Beyond" will be released at 9 a.m. EST, tomorrow
on the Web at:

http://www.nasa.gov/shuttle

The implementation plan is periodically updated and demonstrates
NASA's progress in safely returning space shuttles to flight. The
plan includes information learned during the July Return to Flight
mission (STS-114). It also provides a status of work being done for
the second mission in the Return to Flight sequence. Additional POCs:

Herring, (281) 483-5111.

NASA TV's Public, Education and Media channels are available on an
MPEG-2 digital C-band signal accessed via satellite AMC-6, at 72
degrees west longitude, transponder 17C, 4040 MHz, vertical
polarization. In Alaska and Hawaii, they're on AMC-7 at 137 degrees
west longitude, transponder 18C, at 4060 MHz, horizontal
