Default Future space travel

Recently I have learned of the xprize compettition, that had intrested
me even more on space flight. Although the xprize is for taking
citizens up for a joy ride or when we have colonies, transports.
Does anyone have a guess when us, the citizens in the future will be
able to purchase our own space craft to move freely? My guess is the
start of the first productions will be somewhere around 2050 - 2070
and out to us at the end of the century. Before these come out we
need colonies to visit, so that will not be for at least 15 - 20
years, well, if Kerry gets in office were talking more time
Unfortanently we most likely wont be around to see this unravel, but
its kinda cool to think about. The prices for these space craft
would be expensive also, maybe only rich movie stars will be able to
purchase them.

As with everything, prices drop as something better comes along. Technology,
for instance computers, have plummeted in price. Remember when RAM cost the
same for 1mb what it costs now for 1024mb? As things become obsolete i think
the price of space travel will come down too... I guess we would be seeing a
lot of 'Space Datsuns' whizzin' around when we're old and in deaths hands :P

Don't be so pessimistic, these things aren't steady state.
Look at computers, for example. For the first several
decades they were expensive, rare, arcane, and
inaccessable to all but a select few. Then in the flash
of an eye the microprocessor came on the scene and
computers boomed, then became affordable and usable by
individuals, then became mainstream and a fixture in the
vast majority of American homes. There are many
similarities with other technologies too, such as
automobiles, airplanes, etc. It's hard to predict if
that'll happen with space access soon, but it could,
there're more than a few positive signs, and if it did
things could progress extremely rapidly.
