And exactly how do you investigate something when you have no leads,
no evidence, no indications?

Well first a directy visual inspection is in order. When something unexplained
occurs do you??

A wait for a disaster or

B investigate all likely possibilties?

Looks like management is waiting for whatever to crap out completely. thats
fine if its a ventilation fan with a loose retainer screw.

but what if this noise is a symptom of a kliller issue?

Ahh DONT answer now!

But be aware if something really bad occurs it will appear careless, just like
the foam shedding.

We really dont understand and know exactly why the foam is shedding but its no
biggie

We really didnt know what caused the noise but felt it wasnt a biggie.

The post mrtem of another disaster with the possiblity of a out of contol ISS
deorbit isnt good PR.

If the area in question was worth the time and trouble of a look see on the
time shortened spacewalk its worth going back out soon to complete that walk
and other unfinished spacewalk activities.

Why go take a look at all? There is no evidence, no symptoms, no
leads, no indications, no nothing.

EXCUSE ME theres that unknown noise! That audio evidence of SOMETHING not
right.

How hard is this to understand?

D.

OBVIOUSLY VERY HARD FOR YOU!

You see folks (bob) advocating exactly that. It's them I'm trying to
reach, not you or Herb. (Who mostly know these things.)

Panicking is hearing one noise and rushing out the airlock!

Prudent investigation isnt having the look see cut from one space walk for good
reason then waiting 4 or 5 months.

Thats like accepting foam shedding as a benoolvent nuisance.

IN ANY CASE a mike should be left iopen 24/7 in that area to help diagnose this
noise if it occurs again/ A audio recording would be very helpful.

You folks sadly come from the linda ham school of safety

Ahh dont worry about it
Hey this is my opinion

Had been all that's done, you'd have a point. But as usual, you
remain willfully ignorant.

NASA accepted it as a maintenance issue only. thats a fact of life.

No. I come from a school of safety as hard and as stern as any
astronaut has ever encountered. I know about these things *because I
have lived them*, not just sat in an armchair like you.

well since your part of that nasa group your also likely part of the failed
safety culture.

It's equally a fact of life that such an acceptance *wasn't* done in
the current investigation.

True of course with the crew dead, and the orbiter destroyed it would be kinda
difficult to call foam shedding a maintenance issue.

espically after seeing what foam shedding can do to the leading edge

A direct visual inspection of what? Remember we have no idea
currently what caused the sound.

No they should be looking at the outside, and recording all sounds in the area
in case it reoccurs, which it did.

Big problems almost invariably leave a trace of their existence. The
sound didn't.

WHEN will the trace evidence be in? As long as its not a show stopper thats ok.

Hey foam loss isnt a problem since it hasnt caused one yet

Hey the noise isnt a problem since it hasnt caused one yet/

Hey the o ring burn thru isnt a problem since it hasnt caused one yet
Hey this is my opinion
