sky watch in the desert?
Hi,
I am planning to go on holiday in Egypt in the end of May (Sinai/red sea). I was wondering if it's worth taking my small telescope (ETX60) with me. I have no doubt that the sky is going to be beautifully cloudless and clear, but what about heat/convection? Giving that the day time temperature is going to be around 35c, I'm worried that the at night there's is far too much air movement? I see that there should be a nice comet display then (NEAT C/2001 Q4) and Jupiter/saturn/venus should be nice to watch. Any experiences? Thanks Philippe |

Thanks Philippe I can only compare this to my stint in Saudi, where the only heavenly body visible was the moon. So much dust in the atmosphere made stars invisible. But worth checking with any residents of the particuclar area you are going to.... Night time temp in Saudi was also 30+ deg C even at 2AM ! Good Luck ! DH |

Hi Philippe I can only confirm huge amount of daytime dust lead to rotten evening viewigf - very disapointing. My location was camping at Abu Simbel. regards Mike On Wed, 14 Jan 2004 09:38:22 +0000, Philippe Gautier wrote: Hi, I am planning to go on holiday in Egypt in the end of May (Sinai/red sea).
