Doesn't look like anyone's going anywhere soon.

Just remember that Scaled Composites SS1 is flight hardware, not a prototype
or a scaled version. Their [and other's] development is being done in secret as
is normal in a race environment.
We may be surprized when the Xprize is popped.

On 12 Jul 2003 20:40:02 GMT, in a place far, far away,
(MSu1049321) made the phosphor on my monitor glow
in such a way as to indicate that:

Actually, many of the teams are being quite public about their progress.

For example, "Scaled Composites" posts flight data at
http://scaled.com/projects/tierone/N...a/flt_data.htm. (They
just did their second captive carry test on July 3). "Armadillo Aerospace"
just did a full-scale drop test from a helicopter on July 5; see
www.armadilloaerospace.com. "Starchaser Industries" is doing a manned drop
test from a C-123 in Arizona July 21-25; see www.starchaser.co.uk. "Canadian
Arrow" announced its astronaut team on June 26; see www.canadianarrow.com. The
"da Vinci" team posted a cool video of their progress at
www.davinciproject.com. And so on.
