Crew Moves Robot Arm; Progress to Raise ISS Orbit

The Expedition 9 crew tackled a full workload Thursday. Commander Gennady
Padalka and NASA ISS Science Officer Mike Fincke used the controls at the
Destiny Laboratory Module's robotic workstation to move the robotic arm,
Canadarm2, into position for the Sept. 3 spacewalk. Canadarm2's video camera
will be used to capture video of Padalka and Fincke with work outside the
Russian segment.

Other tasks on Thursday included continuation of cargo transfers from the
ISS Progress 15 spacecraft delivered last week and the crew medical officer
training session. Also, the crew recharged the batteries in the Soyuz
spacecraft's satellite phone.

While the crew sleeps, the Russian flight controllers will fire the
Progress' engines in a maneuver designed to raise the Station's orbit,
helping to place the ISS in the proper orbit for the arrival of the Soyuz
TMA-5 spacecraft and the Expedition 10 crew on Oct. 11. The maneuver will be
used to test the ability of Russian specialists to accurately measure the
Station's mass using instruments on the Progress during a reboost maneuver
and to see how much fuel can be conserved during future maneuvers.
