CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) -
NASA hopes to return astronauts to the moon by 2018, nearly a
half-century after men last walked the lunar surface, by using a
distinctly retro combination of space shuttle and Apollo rocket parts.

The space agency presented its lunar exploration plan to the White
House on Wednesday and on Capitol Hill on Friday. An announcement is
set for Monday at NASA headquarters in Washington.

The fact that this successor to the soon-to-be-retired shuttle relies
so heavily on old-time equipment, rather than sporting fancy futuristic
designs, "makes good technological and management sense," said John
Logsdon, director of George Washington University's space policy
institute. ...

Do you plan to let me go
For the other guy you left me for
Don't you know that I heard it through the grapevine. (Heard it through
the grapevine)
Not much longer would you be mine. (Heard it, heard it, I heard it, yes
I heard it)
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine. (Heard it, heard it, I heard it,
yes I heard it)
Oh, heard it through the grapevine.(Heard it, heard it, I heard it, yes
I heard it)
I heard it through the grapevine. (Heard it, heard it, I heard it, yes
I heard it)
Woo, I heard it through the grapevine. (Heard it, heard it, I heard it,
yes I heard it)
I heard it through the grapevine. (Heard it, heard it, I heard it, yes
I heard it)
Oh, heard it throught the grapevine.(Heard it, heard it, I heard it,
yes I heard it)

Think that's enough time? The original program took less than 10
years. But then we know that today's NASA can't begin to fill the
jockstraps of the NASA of the 60's!

What choice do they have? They haven't even been able to come up with
a new shuttle design in 30 years!

Sure, lean heavily on the old designs. Those guys way back then had
the "Right Stuff!" Maybe they can just roll those old mothballed
Saturn V's out of the museums and fuel them up! That way it shouldn't
take them so mamy years.

How will NASA get off the ground again if Delta folds? Maybe they can
requisition the Spruce Goose!

Hi Double-A and RL Fact is NASA left two Saturn V that were ready to
fly. Once Nixon got his So. Calif. Mafia cronies to push out the Apollo
great engineers, they knew they could not copy what was done. Today they
are the same low brain idiots that put wings on rockets, and could only
go round and round for 37 years in low orbit, accomplishing nothing with
the Micky Mouse shuttle other than killing 14 astronauts in 113 flights.
It takes great engineering to put men on the Moon and bring them back
safely to Earth. People working today know they can't even "copy" the
NASA of the Apollo program. When they take just one look at the mighty
Saturn V they **** in their pants. Bert

The problem is not new designs, but getting Congress to pay for them!

Hi Double-A Its getting hard to go to Switzerland for NASA Mafia to
count their money. Delta is coming apart like the shuttles when not even
off the ground. Swiss-Air will be the air line of choice. Beert

Hi world,

... cough

Isn't 'reinventing' the wheel is far more sensible than 'refurbishing'
the wheel, here.

We *now* live in the computer age. I would have hoped that the
engineering challenge of developing viable spacecraft would be much
reduced by now ...

... eh ?

Heck, why doesn't NASA simply buy it Wal Mart ... not sexy enough ?

Yeah, our government would rather spend 200 billion to rebuild a
hurricane vulnerable city on a sinking sand bar!

Why not? All their stuff is made in China, and I haven't heard of any
problems with the Chinese space program recently.

Gee whizz ...

... perfectly in keeping with reviving the Apollo program and
merging it with shuttle technology.

The 'contractors' will be having a feeding frenzy !
