Default Perhaps a way to help go thru space with less danger and somewhatless shielding.

The apparent benefits of a "light water" environment with heavy hydrogen
removed mostly. Combine this with the more conventional radioprotectants
perhaps shielding needs are somewhat reduced. Plus the life might be longer.

[The "light" water effect on lenticular opacity development in mice after
repeated low dose gamma-irradiation].

[Article in Russian]

Abrosimova AN, Rakov DV, Siniak IuE.

Action of "light" water with reduced quantities of heavy stable hydrogen and 18O
ions on incidence and progress of lenticular opacity was studied in
gamma-irradiated mice (60Co, 1.0 Gy). The animals were subjected to
electroophthalmoscopy regularly till end of life time. The observation showed
that chronic intake of "light" water safeguarded the irradiated mice against
lenticular opacity. The experimental data indicate that "light" water strengthens
the general body resistance as well as slows down aging of mammals.

[Alleviation of gamma-radiation damage by water with reduced deuterium and 18O
content].

[Article in Russian]

Rakov DV.

Effects of rectified water with low content of heavy stable isotopes
of hydrogen (deuterium) and oxygen (18O) on radiation damage were
studied in senior males of the Balb/c mice. The animals were
irradiated by 60Co in unit PX-gamma-30 at a dose of 0.50 Gy.
Dose rate was equal to 0.32 cGy/min. It was shown that
rectified water had a positive effect on recovery of
radiation damage such as impairment of immune organs
(thymus and spleen), peripheral blood and marrow cells.

[Research progress of the inhibitory effect of deuterium-depleted water on
cancers].

[Article in Chinese]

Wang H, Liu C, Fang W, Yang H.

Sino-America Cancer Research Institute,
Guangdong Medical College, Dongguan,
China.

OBJECTIVE:
Deuterium is an important predisposing factor for cancer.
Deuterium-depleted Water, also known as low deuterium water,
ultra-light water or no deuterium water, can be obtained
by removing deuterium from natural water. Studies have
shown that water with a low deuterium concentration
(65% percent of volume) can inhibit cancer growth.
Clinical trials demonstrated that drinking DDW
(10-20 ppm) caused growth arrest of malignant cells
in cancer patients and significantly prolonged the
patient survival with also improved quality of life.
A wide range of anti-cancer drugs in current use
are associated with severe adverse effects,
while deuterium-depleted water appears to have
virtually no pharmacological side effects
and is convenient to administer. The authors
review the advances in the researches of
anti-cancer effects and the underlying
mechanisms of deuterium-depleted water.
