Does anyone know if spare ACES helmets were carried aboard the shuttle?

http://neurolab.jsc.nasa.gov/acessuit.htm doesn't give any
indication. It isn't clear from the text how generic the helmets are,
or how individually sized. I would guess that there would at most 3
sizes, but that's a SWAG without the science.

Maybe Rusty has a link to a PDF of a preflight stowage checklist.

I think the actually question maybe "Was the helmet found lying in the yard
in Texas, on someone's head an hour before?"

Well, the OP had something in another forum which more specfically
mentioned "in case of failure", so I'm not sure how morbid he/she/it is
being.

If the morbidness is indeed that high, I believe the answer is
currently given as "no". AIUI, someone never got around to putting
their helmet on.
