Congratulations to Lockheed-Martin on winning the Orion program
It looks beautiful. and I can't wait for the USA to get back to The
Moon. Now, get going on building a WORKING system, to replace the useless STS deathtrap/money pit that has been a ball and chain around the ankle of this USA for 30 years. - Stewart |

Getting to the Moon for its own sake isn't a very laudable goal at this point since it's already been done. Also, without the infrastructure in place to make further missions easier, we're back to square one when and if we finish, just like the Apollo program. If the system's not economically sustainable (Apollo wasn't [and didn't pretend to be], the Shuttle isn't [in spite of pretending to be], and this isn't either), it'll still be its own kind of ball and chain... -- Frank You know what to remove to reply... But, nothing like STS was. STS needs to have a segment on ENGINEERING DISASTERS... it just wouldn't be politically correct, while we are forced to use the darn system to (ineffeciently) shuttle humans to/from space. We are going to replace it with a *new and different* deathtrap/moneypit which will be the ball and chain for the next 30 thirty years. This isn't progress. D. -- Touch-twice life. Eat. Drink. We don't even know if there is water there, never mind about lunar geology beyond the surface rocks brought back from Apollo. |

Amen! It is time to get going with a scaleable semi-reuseable system!
The blunt end re-entry capsule is an fine example of just how right they got it in the 60's. The main problem I have is with the Ares I stick config.! To keep from having to do a complete 39A & B rebuild, (And loosing the cap. of launching a stored, shuttle in a pinch, (or interupting shuttle close out), put the cev on top of a modified, (Scaled down), shuttle tank w/ SRB's on the side. This will work, and allow for use of most of the existing ground hardware. The Heavy Ares V, needs to be pushed faster too! Maybe it is time to build a new pad just for it? As for the fella stating that, "the public is not behind the new program", (Get over it)! The public that pays the bills, (i.e., not sports fans, mtv (non-rocking present afro version), video game playing, tree hugging "Oh-My-God the Worlds Melting", idoits), is tired of being told who is interested and who is not, (By folks like you)! I want my future now please!! I have already paid for it! What is wrong with wanting what I was promissed! I guess you want to put off a good/fun future, for funding, studies of belly lint, new gee-wiz military lie/program, or rebuilding Willy Wonka's Factory! Please try and stay on the task of helping get us to the Stars! The mud here has been well traveled and studied! Have a great day! Carl |
