Default 2 spacewalks at the same time?

Anybody know if they have ever considered having 4 spacewalkers
outside on station assembly missions? I'd think the 2 airlocks could
support this without problems (for that matter what stops them from
cycling Quest multiple times?). They managed 3 on STS-49 but I'm
guessing the choreography and communications might be an issue.

It'd be cool to see 4 suits climbing around ISS!

For a start, one lot would have to use Russian suits, as the cycling of the
Quest twice is too complex and if a problem occurred where all needed to
come in, its not big enough!

Note to designers, make bigger airlocks cos the trash they bring in takes up
more room than the crew!

Actually, with the shuttle docked you've got three airlocks available, so
you could see four EMU's and two Orlans climbing around ISS at the same
time. :-)

Why you'd ever want to do this, I have no idea. I'd think there might be
safety issues just due to the "lines of communication". It sounded bad
enough when I was listening in to the last EVA.

Mostly I was thinking that you could get an extra EVA out of the same
mission duration. Since they rest the EV crewmembers between EVAs
with 2 crews you get 3 EVAs in 3 days. Doing 2 at a time you'd get
the equivalent of 4. 2 crews out first day, day off, same 2 crews out
the second.
You'd probably need an extra IV crewmember and that's probably enough
right there to rule it out - they seem to fill each crewmembers day
pretty completely now.

Not sure if the WVS system would handle 4 crewmembers outside. I'm
guessing the radios might not support it either. Anybody recall what
they did for the 3rd Endeavor spacewalker?

Is the russian suit out of Quest still a going concern?
