ALERT: Geomagnetic K-index of 5 Threshold Reached: 2013 Aug 27 1943 UTC Okay Sam,let's put this thread to some good use and look at geomagnetism. The Earth is not really a 'rocky 'planet,it is largely a liquid planet and a spinning celestial objects with fluid compositions don't rotate as a unit but have an uneven rotational gradient between equatorial and polar latitudes. The Earth has a 24,901 mile circumference which turns at a rate of 15 degrees/1037.5 miles per hour but unfortunately you won't even recognize this fact which ,in turn, prohibits you from considering differential rotation influencing crustal evolution/motion,the spherical deviation of the planet and geomagnetic signatures as among the major topics for discussion. An astronomer would use comparative studies to look at geomagnetism and especially our neighbor Venus which is roughly the same size as the Earth but only residual rotation hence no spherical deviation, little geological activity aside from volcanic events and very weak magnetic field which lights up with these CME events - http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/su...osions_prt.htm You see Sam,although they have tried to insert a rotational mechanism for plate tectonics without proper attribution, they have done so by flinging wild assertions instead of the neat reasoning which does not exempt the Earth from zonal flow as with all other rotating fluid compositions on a celestial scale. |
