NASA WorldWind vs. Google Earth/Moon/Mars
Since no one else mentioned it, Google released a new version of
Google Earth on Monday, July 20, 2009, adding Earth's Moon as a world to visit. It sort-of reminded me of something I've seen before, and that "something" is he http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ which is free like Google Earth and Google Moon with this claim: " World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any " place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle " Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience " Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really " there. " " Virtually visit any place in the world. Look across the Andes, " into the Grand Canyon, over the Alps, or along the African Sahara. Works with Win2K, WinXP and Vista, and an accelerated 3D graphics card is "suggested". A list of compatible cards is he http://worldwindcentral.com/wiki/Video_Card_Compatibility |
