Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one
individual to serve in his Administration:

The President intends to nominate Michael D. Griffin, of Virginia, to be
Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Dr.
Griffin currently serves as Space Department Head at Johns Hopkins
University Applied Physics Laboratory. Prior to that, he was President and
Chief Operating Officer of In-Q-Tel, Inc. He also served in several
positions within Orbital Sciences Corporation, including Chief Executive
Officer of Magellan Systems, Inc. Earlier in his career, Dr. Griffin served
as Chief Engineer at NASA and as Deputy for Technology at the Strategic
Defense Initiative Organization. He received a bachelor's degree in Physics
from Johns Hopkins University; a master's degree in Aerospace Science from
Catholic University of America; a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the
University of Maryland; a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the
University of Southern California; a master's degree in Applied Physics from
Johns Hopkins University; a master's degree in Business Administration from
Loyola College; and a master's degree in Civil Engineering from The George
Washington University.

Well, they left out he's also President-elect of the AIAA:

Really? Which one, the current one or the previous one?

Years ago in college had dinner with a professor who did some studies in
Jordan.

Noticed a Christmas card on the bookshelf... from the King himself. (Much
like many folks can get cards from the President, etc.)

Except this one had a personal note and was hand signed. Very cool.

Once upon a time I was a member of the same Amateur Radio club as King
Hussein. Although it didn't happen while I was there, apparently it
wasn't unknown for him to just turn up to the regular meetings when he
was in the UK and he certainly knew the club officers and longer term
mebers personally. He took the King busines seriously, and was very good
at it.
