Moon question
From my 13 y/o grandson:
What would happen to earth if there was no moon? Thank you |

Moon question
Hard to say.
I have read many articles regarded to this phenomenon. Earth would not use so stable orbit and rotation probably - with serious consequences. By the way - is there any other question to answer much more easy, please? ;-) Roman Shirley wrote: From my 13 y/o grandson: What would happen to earth if there was no moon? Thank you |

Thank you Also note there would be far fewer erosive forces on the earth, and no tides! And actually having the moon in orbit is ==very== gradually lengthenning our day. The moon once had a rotation of its own, but friction from earth-tides (on the moon) caused its day to be in-sync with its orbit around the earth, which is why it displays only one side to us. Other than that, I dunno. |

Moon question
The earth would not be as stable in its rotation - the poles would
shift - and the climate would be much more variable as a result. Evolution would probably therefore have taken a very different path. The moon acts as a gyroscope on the earth's orbit, rectifying aberrations. Shirley wrote: From my 13 y/o grandson: What would happen to earth if there was no moon? Thank you |

Moon question
Note that the tides are set by the gravity of the moon
Non moon means no tide and virtualy no waves; a flat ocean except for storms and other catastrophy. "Shirley" a écrit dans le message news: ... From my 13 y/o grandson: What would happen to earth if there was no moon? Thank you |
