Rational means science based. Show me the numbers....

Show you the numbers??? Ok. 1,2,3,4,5,.. it goes on like that there,
tweety.

Typical response. Your side is the one proposing spending
hundreds of billions on a scientific venture. So it is ...your
side that needs to justify, and in detail, what will flow
from that investment. The thread is about "WHY?"

I'm still waiting for any sort of rational response.
I've yet to hear one. The best argument put forth
is by the Nasa administrator. Which is we should
have faith that somehow great things will happen
from going to the Moon and Mars.

Unfortunately, FAITH isn't something we should be
using to design our national SCIENCE goals.
Faith is what religions are based on.

Well...not any more, our science is to become
faith-based too it seems.

You obviously fail to see the absurdity of this
goal of going to the moon. Just as obviously
as you fail to see why science shouldn't be
based on faith. But on facts and logic.
I'm still waiting to hear any such thing
concerning going to the Moon.

Pipe-dreams don't count.

I still have a hard time understanding how to get through the Van
Allen radiation belt. I'm not doubting the Apollo missions to the moon
at all. Is the radiation not so bad when going through the belt at a
high speed? Does anyone know how fast the Apollo spacecraft was
cruising through it?

It really doesn't hardly matter because, the moon itself is at the very
least ten fold worse off, if not 100 fold, and that's simply a matter of
raw physics, and otherwise of as much replicated science as you can deal
with.

Why do you think that such horrific gamma ray and hard-X-ray images can
be taken of our moon, as looking directly through the entire 70,000 km
worth of our Van Allen zone of death?

There are many conspirators against the Apollo missions, and this was
one of the points they made clear. I was very skeptical about the
propoganda they fed me, but I would really like to believe we went to
the moon.

Going back to the topic, I think before we do anything more in space,
we need to set up a base on the moon, maybe even terraform it a little
and give it a slight CO2 atmosphere to give some shielding from
pelting rocks and make it a little warmer. I think it will give us a
little experience before we go onto Mars or Venus. Seems logical to
me, especially since it is so close.

We only need to establish the moon's L1, as a small Clarke Station, or
possibly by way of a robust POOF might even due. This can even be 100%
robotic, as the hard science obtained would be exactly the same.

In this interview Tom Hanks suggests the public
quickly decided during Apollo the moon wasn't
worth going back to. And over /thirty years later/
Mr Hanks still believes a reason for returning
has yet to be found.

He's correct, of course, there isn't a rational reason
for going back to the moon.

Not unless we can drop off Bush and all of his family and friends.

Good thought. !

Of course- they can they bring hope to the Moon, just as they have done to
the Middle East, in spite of the actions of the liberal media. The world is
better off because of them, and the moon can be as well.

Thank you for your support.
