Default Hale Scope gets new Aluminimum Coating

Hey,

I stopped by the Hale Telescope (Palomar Mt, CA) this weekend and saw
they pulled the mirror from the scope for a recoat. Check this URL for
pics of the action. It takes about 1 or 2 minutes for the image to appear.

Pretty sad when it takes Caltech to produce a small jpg that should
appear within a few seconds really take 2 minutes; And I'm on a
burstable T1.

I could almost grind a 30" mirror in less time. :

You'll notice that the time it takes for the image to refresh varies.
This is because the system is set to refresh only when motion is
detected. Right now (12:45 PDT) there's nothing happening at all
because the vacuum chamber is being pumped down. There might be someone
in the frame during the night when the coils are fired. It will get
busy again during the day on Tuesday when the mirror is removed from the
chamber. If you catch it then you might get a good view of it!
