Default ASTRO: NGC 5921

After NGC 4319 I looked for another target for the second half of the night
of May 3 and had the bad idea to reshoot NGC 5921. As NGC 5921 is rather low
(+5 degrees in Serpens) the almost full moon brightened the images
considerably. While the images of NGC 4319 had a background of about 12000
counts, the background for NGC 5921 was between 18000 and 19000.

Taken from the middle of Berlin with an 8" SCT at f/6.5, G11 mount, SXV-H9
camera, 21x5 minutes.

The picture can also be found at

My very lengthy to do list just got longer. Interesting guy I'd missed
considering.

12000 background count! Yikes. Even a bright moon here gives me only
6,000 in 10 minutes. Most of the time (except for the very core of the
nucleus) the galaxy doesn't run that high in 10 minute sub frames and
that's binned 2x2. Typical background with a half moon in 10 minutes
(most I can handle) is about 650. If it hits 1000 I start having
trouble, (400 for H-alpha). It's a good thing I don't live near a city!

That guy does have a bright core.

Rick

Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct.
Third character is a zero rather than a capital "Oh".
