Melissa Motichek Headquarters, Washington November 21, 2003 (Phone: 202/358-1272) Tracy Young Kennedy Space Center, Fla. (Phone: 321/867-2468) NOTE TO EDITORS: N03-125 MEDIA INVITED TO SEE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION HARDWARE This week marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of the International Space Station. Members of the media are invited to commemorate this milestone by touring the Space Station Processing Facility (SSPF) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Fla., at 10 a.m. EST on Dec. 3. Reporters will have the opportunity to see Space Station hardware being processed for deployment once the Space Shuttles return to flight. The event includes an overview of Space Station processing by Charlie Precourt, deputy manager of the International Space Station Program; Tip Talone, director of Space Station and Payload Processing; and a Boeing-Florida Operations representative. Boeing is the prime contractor for Space Station operations. The facility tour also includes an opportunity for reporters to talk with NASA and Boeing mission managers about the various hardware elements currently being processed for flight. Media needing accreditation must fax their requests on news affiliation letterhead to the KSC Press Site at 321/867-2692 by 2 p.m. on Dec. 1. Each request should include: full name, title, Social Security number, date of birth, place of birth, and country of citizenship. Due to limited space, badged media planning to attend should contact Tracy Young, KSC Media Relations, at 321/867-2468. Standard operational dress is required for this event. Those planning to attend must wear long pants and flat, closed-toe shoes. Media should arrive at the KSC press site by 9:15 a.m. the day of the event for transportation to the SSPF. The Russian Zarya control module was launched from Kazakhstan on Nov. 20, 1998, and the U.S. module Unity was launched aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on Dec. 4 of that year.
