ASTRO: Open Cluster M-50 thru the 20RC
This is a 5:5:5 minute RGB exposure with an STL-1301E CCD camera thru an
Optical Guidance Systems 20-inch Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain focal reduced to F/5. For more info on M-50, see: http://www.kopernik.org/images/archive/m50.htm George N |

For more info on M-50, see: http://www.kopernik.org/images/archive/m50.htm George N RGB colors are much better than the one shot which again has a severe green cast to it that it didn't have in earlier shots. Not sure why but even the bright orange stars in this shot are rather green in the DSLR. Has the white balance setting changed? This shot has about the same scale as mine though being short exposures didn't overblow the stars so their colors come through well. I tend to go too deep on my cluster shots. So far I have a rare clear night. Hazy with 4" seeing but that's better than 5" earlier. Snow is supposed to hit tomorrow again. Winter can't seem to let go here. It might be something to do with the way IRIS applies flats/darks/bias to DSLR images. In this case I had no darks, so perhaps the software is doing something. It was also pretty dark that night so there is very little background signal. George N |

Nice image with good colours George.
Actually my DSLR frames also come out very green when I process them with IRIS. I usually split them in RGB and do the further processing in AstroArt.
