OT - Writer Arthur C Clarke dies at 90
wrote in message ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7304004.stm Just heard about it on the telly. And I just got his collected short stories out of the library yesterday. A toss-up whether it's he or Isaac Asimov who is the author who has given me the most reading pleasure. RIP ACC. Steve |

I remember playing the text adventure game based on the book many years ago. |

Hasn't that one been in Development Hell since pretty much forever? I'd really like to see Childhood's End made by the folks that brought us "Children of Men" though... FoFP |

A benign great mind with the ability to make us believe almost
anything without attempting to control us. That rare being who was never corrupted by the power he wielded. A living transporter of minds, inspiration, ideas and dreams has returned to his planetary dust. Arthur C. Clark. Sol. 3.2008. R.I.P. |

FoFP Well it's shown as pre production with Morgan Freeman on IMDB. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134933/ I also hear that one of my all time favourite 50's sci fi movies is being remade (When Worlds Collide) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455856/ |

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7304004.stm Wonderful author. Planetary Radio is podcasting an old interview with Arthur C Clarke. http://www.planetary.org/radio/show/00000281/ Among other things, Clark refers to his acquaintance with J.R.R. Tolkein and relates an event where Tolkein and he were seated next to each other at lunch. Clark says that Tolkein pointed to a smallish man, his book editor, and said "That's where I got the idea for the Hobbitt." Now we know. |
