Default Shortage of Mars News

Although it took the press a few days to get the word, it's been a week
since Spirit was fixed, and almost two weeks since Opportunity landed, and
there have been virtually no news stories from Mars during that whole time.

Is it because the news media have stopped doting on the Mars mission, or
because NASA is proceeding so cautiously that the project is moving at a
snail's pace? I wouldn't expect any science results until whatever data is
gathered has gone through a painstaking process of analysis, but before
Spirit broke down, the networks were reporting every little detail,
practically on a minute-by-minute basis.

Is it because the breakdown threw cold water on everybody's enthusiasm for
the project, even though everything is fixed now?

No, it's because NASA lackeys are handling the PR, and NASA scientists are
handling the data, and NASA engineers are handling the vehicle. Look, this is
NASA, what did you expect?

Let me put it to you straight, with this Meridiani site, NASA scientists are
sitting on the mother lode of Mars water and Mars life, and NASA career science
bureaucrats are screwing it up.

Look for things to change very quickly as the reality of Meridiani starts to
sink in.

Don't rely on the media. Rely on this instead:

Can't disagree. Watch engineers scream and jump around at the first
pictures then... drop the ball. Of course those with a real interest
keep up, but the mainstream, out of sight out of mind.

Thomas- care to elaborate on this? I'm interested in what makes you
think that Meridiani is the mother lode of life and H2O on Mars?
