SS1 Crowd

I went to watch SS1 this morning.
While I can't add anything technical, I was very encouraged to see

the crowd that turned up to see the first Shuttle land 20+ years ago.

And why not - Mojave is such a garden spot afterall I'm just glad
they opened the parking lot early, I suspect it made things go much
more smoothly. It also made it possible to be at the fence (even with
the CAP guys doggedly trying to maintain that 3 foot clearance at
the south end of the viewing area - I wonder if they have a zoomed
image of the crowd

I was surprised that as many people left immediately after touchdown
as did - having waited as long as most had, had they waited 20 minutes
more they'd have gotten to see "the sign" being held-up.

This is a standard convention organizer's trick to avoid long lines --
announce plainly when you are going to open, and then open significantly
earlier than that.
