Default Naval Space Surveillance System

Fellow Newsgroup-ees -

The NAVSPASUR system (now run by the AF, has the name changed?) has been
in limbo since the Navy decided to not fund it and the AF was not sure they
wanted to keep it running. I sometimes hear from pals who are in the know
(at least they think they are) and now it appears that the AF is ready to
commit to an upgrade to the system - retro-fitting it to increase the frequency
to S-band. The S-band upgrade is supposed to be in a future budget. Note
that I say a future budget not in the current budget!

So the immediate future of the system is looking more certain.

More details as I get them.
