List of computer-controllable cameras needed
Greetings:
I am hoping to generate a list of cameras which will be candidates for major surgery to make a peltier- cooled camera for prime-focus astrophotography. The major requirements a 1. min. of 1.3 megapixel CCD sensor; 2. controllable by wire (serial, USB, firewire, etc.) 3. RAW (or TIFF) image format, downloadable over wire; 3. camera electronics will still function with lens (and zoom or focusing hardware) removed; 4. need not be an SLR or have removable lenses if above criteria are met; 5. manual control of exposure and shutter with bulb mode and disable of autofocus; 6. no mechanical shutter mechanism if possible. Certainly there are high-end bodies with these features but cost is a consideration. Some consumer point-and-shoot models have some or most of these features and would be candidates for cannibalization. So far I have investigated: 1. Casio QV-8000(SX) 2. Canon PowerShot G3 I would much appreciate addtions to this list. Regards, Michael Grigoni Cybertheque Museum |

List of computer-controllable cameras needed
I am hoping to generate a list of cameras which will
be candidates for major surgery to make a peltier- cooled camera for prime-focus astrophotography. I've settled on the Kodak DC290; it satisfies most of the criteria of my original post, can be remotely linked by IrDA/serial/USB connections, has SDKs for Unix and Win32 and is cheap. I will update this thread with a URL to the webpage which documents this effort as it progresses. Regards, Michael |
