These are detonated at a rate of 40 to 80 per second to produce 50% to 105% thrust. The J-58 M3.2 engine: "Lockheed would test the dual-mode ramjet in a flight research vehicle, and try to find solutions to issues like engine packaging and designing the thermal management system, Bartolotta says." "We're doing this at a lower Mach number so we need to figure out what are the issues for cocooning the turbine, what do we need to do to reignite that turbine once we come down from hypersonic speeds," Bartolotta says. It would seem, that if you're using pellets, IMO the whole idea breaks down when concerning temperature control near the outlet. Can you bring an Li6D pellet into a combustion chamber through a supercooled, albeit superconducting, magnetohydrodynamically cooled tube? Although I agree with your numbers, they all seem to prescribe 200 micron diameter pellets for the various engines you have listed. My question to you is, WHY is the Air Force (among others) looking for such a SMALL lifting capacity? |
