Default Bungee cords ineffective protecting Chilean telescopes

For those unaware, there was a large earthquake, 8.8, in Chile
Saturday, February 27, 2010:

Bungee cords wouldn't prevent the mirrors of the Very Large Telescope
(VLT) from sliding into the Pacific ocean. Here's how they do it:
