Default Pokemon and Peekles

Can you put still some byte(8 bits) to memory(Poke) and read it(Peek)?
Whole command perhaps only two bytes or 4 or 6 or 8 bytes?

There are three bytes(8 bits 0=FF hex 0=255) in memory for colours but
must we put fourth byte to external brightness? Not yet, but somedays?
