If you are getting any video yet, it would be nice to know how big the
alleged crater actually is. Thanks for the report!

Leading tv news channel aajtak is continuously reporting. Indeed some
pieces are recovered by police. ISRO has been informed. It would take
time for reporters to in kutch, saurashtra which is rather desert.

So there may or may not be an actual crater. An actual crater, even if
it was only tens of meters in diameter, would indeed be remarkable.

Thanks for the reporting, it looks like it will be a few days before you
guys get it all sorted out. I'm assuming it was dark when the impact
occurred. I'll look for it in the news tomorrow.

..
Not in this report but I just saw video of 7-8 pieces(5-6 cm wide) in
video on aajtak news channel.
You can understand if police can recover 7-8 pieces easily, there might
be thousands lying in desert. Should I call it asteroid which broke in
sky?

Here in the US, an event like this wouldn't even make the news, even if
it had occurred in downtown Chicago. The media over here has far more
important things to cover, like the lives of movie stars and criminals.

..
24/7 news channel run any story when they don't have. School bus fell
in canal, 6 children died. USA got satellite pics of terror camps in
pakistan. So Indian tv channels got more important news now.

Sorry to hear about your rocket, I'm sure you'll get it sorted out.

Nobody in india cares about those stuff. Discovery lift off got more
coverage.

Unsuccessful rocket launchs, falling fighter planes is not 'news'.

That's what it sounds like to me. I was hoping for a big smoking crater,
but I'm glad nobody got hit.

Well, some of us over here really do care about it :

We're really counting on you guys to help us out.

You're going to need a new rocket, though.

It's news, just not very important news in most people's minds. You can
bet that when a meteorite lands in a highly populated area creating a
large crater, that will be news.

Thanks again! I'll continue to monitor the interesting story.

There are probably thousands of them coming from the Ort cloud. There was a
prediction of a strike on the 8 August 2006 in the mediteranian, possibly
with the epicente at Crete.

The prediction is for devastion in the meditereranian area (I think it was
crete, it was a big island in the Eastern mediteranian but not cyprus).

I cannot confirm this, It may not be visible as it is from the direction of
the sun.

That's just 4 days time.

First off, it is "Oort".
Second off, most meteorite showers do not "come in". They
are the remnants of comet tails (comets do come from the Oort cloud)
that remain in orbit around the sun after the comet has passed by,
and the Earth sweeps through them.

Utter rubbish, a meteor show is much larger. The August shower is an
annual event.

Chris,

You are aware we are in the Perseid Meteor Shower?

From http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060804...r_060804170847

"Villagers in western India have reportedly begun worshipping rock
fragments following a meteor shower."

I wonder if habshi is out with his funnels trying to collect the
enormous amount of energy in meteors? :-)
