Default I'm new to this group. Can somebody let me in on the joke?

I've been lurking in this group for a few weeks, and I've been resisting the
urge to ask this, but I can't take it anymore. What's the deal with this
Bert guy? He seems WAAAAY out there. I can't believe some of the things he
says (examples upon request). Which one of the following scenarios is true?

1. He's so smart, everything he says goes directly over my head.
2. He's a "lovable" troll that the newsgroup has adopted. He knows much of
what he says doesn't hold water, and he doesn't care.
3. He's a legitimate mental case, and he THINKS he's as smart as the
hypothetical person in scenario 1.

Or, is there another explanation?

None of the above M, he is a profound Earth Science Team Officer
who loves Bud Light, Mexican red wood sprinkled sweet potatoes, and is
an expert random what if dart thrower. Loves sci fi and net science
group as a whole. Has been web tv posting for years and prone to
imaginative flights of fancy. Goes by the name of Herb, Bert, Beert, and
whatever he is feeling his suds at the time. Smart isn't the name for
it, perplexing, dual personality, insightful, astute, cunning, friendly,
multiverse lover more applicable. Open minded to a fault and 1st Darla
Contact Initiative Team Member. Lots of newsgroup inside jokes which
will take you a while to catch on about. But a very long time serious
contributing member, unlike the recent coffee boys hanging around. Hope
this helps.

HiM First let me say I've been called every name in the book but never
"lovable" Love to think science (all my life) Have posted thoughts that
are weird to some, and brilliant to others. Like to make people laugh(dry
humor) even if I have to put myself down. Have very little schooling, and
no religion(don't think humankind or universe needs Gods) My IQ is
122,and since Feynman's was 126 I'm proud of that. Very ashamed of my
spelling and sentence structuring(mental block) You will find M I have
some very good virtual friends. Reality is I out lived all my close real
life friends, and I'm very grateful to have these electronic friends.
friends that I will never shake hands with. Never drink Bud with or play
poker.Still every day they are in my thoughts. Everyday I hope to post
something that will tickle them. I hold them in my highest regards.
Herb,Bert Beert,or Treb have been posting for many Moons Reality is its
to late for me to save or hold back my thoughts. Bert

Welcome to the alt.astronomy saucerhead group delusion and Darla
starship cult. Please check your brain at the door, it is not needed.

Hey, man.....

I was just thinking about contributing something to this group from time to
time, and I wanted to know if it was worth my while to lock horns with Bert.
If you think I was trolling, then I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess
you'll just miss out on anything productive I might have to say.

HiM Why don't you try saying something productive, and let the chips
fall where they may? Rickover told his students this "IF I talk over
your head than lift your head up" M I use small words short
sentences, and easy or no math. Not long ago I thought of stop
posting(very depressed) but it looks like I'm just going to fad away.
I've been told I'm a little crazy by some very nice sane people, and I
think they are right(my wife things so too) How do I want to be
remembered.? "I was crazy in a nice funny way"(like a clown) Bert

And probably not the notion "filter file" - what a queer expression.
