Constellations

I had my new 6" f/8 dobsonian out last night (well it is new for me) and stomped the heck out of a 3" televue refractor on the moon, (Although stars looked very pretty through the refractor,well actually anything looks really pretty in the televue 76 but the views are small.) I am not sure what crater sizes we were observing but I had an easier time with details in the dobsonan for sure.

This was our 3rd gathering but a nice thing that happened at our mini star party was the 76 owner brought a professional astrologer this time and she was able to tell us facts about many of the constellations and show us how some recent events related to what we could see in our telescopes. I was a bit in awe and wondered why we dont see more of this tying together of these two disciplines that are perfect matches for each other.

I know there are hardcore critics in here but I think they just havent experienced a real professional astrologer before. I think they would make a believer out of you and uncloud your preconceptions

astrologer ? Peeee U that stinks. It is cold hard FACT that the Stars
, Planets, etc. have NOTHING to do with events that happen on Earth.
This people FEED on the clueless FOOLS that belive the crap that they
put forth.

astrologer at a star party? You should have asked her why they don't
use ALL 88 constellations, why don't they show the SUN in the center
of the solar system, why don't they take many of the true facts of
ASTRONOMY into their horriable scopes?

There's so much more I could go into, but it's a waste of bandwith,
she's clueless herself.

Just what do you think a "professional astrologer" is? A "professional astrologer"
takes money and give you garbage in return.

People certainly have the right to believe whatever the like. However, spreading
misinformation by uninformed, poorly educated, astrologers or crackpots should be
corrected, especially in science and education circles (star parties qualify).
This can be done in a very positive way and gives amateur astronomers a chance
to educate and inspire with information about the universe and how we know what
we know.

On of the reasons you don't often find astrologers at star parties is
because they can't stand the laughter they cause......!

Furthermore, they know they'll end up looking like the fool they are as
soon as astronomers start questioning them. Astrologers depend upon
bedazzling the uninformed, and fall apart under the hard glare of
scientific fact.

I should have added this to my earlier response......just for laughts,
I'd be interested in hearing what she shared with you ----"facts about
many of the constellations and show us how some recent events related to
what we could see in our telescopes."

Care to share some of her enlightments with us?
